The Inter-Residence Hall Association’s annual ResHall Week is underway. Events continue until April 2.

So far, the attendance for ResHall Week events has been the same as in past years, said Carlyn Goebel, director of special events for the Inter-Residence Hall Association.

Goebel said the movie night is a new event for ResHall Week. Two films will be shown Thursday night free of charge. Another first is the addition of Smiles and Gyros, Inc. to the ExTRAvaganza Saturday.

Winners of Sunday’s Karaoke night will receive gift certificates to Ames businesses, Goebel said, which will hopefully bring out a good crowd.

Heidi Schrum, Linden Hall resident and junior in child and family services, said she is thinking about going to the activities being held. Those include a pie throwing contest Monday and Jell-O wrestling and tug-of-war Wednesday.

“I am probably going to go to the fireworks,” Schrum added.

Colleen Prosser, Towers Residence Association treasurer, said highlights of the week for her are the ExTRAvaganza finale fireworks Saturday and the karaoke contest.

Last year, she said, “It was an absolute blast.”

Katie Lint, junior in communication studies who lives in Wilson Hall, said she will go to the dance Friday night and is looking forward to UDA’s Casino Night Tuesday.

She said Saturday’s ExTRAvaganza will be exciting because it is an all day event. Lint anticipates the presence of Smiles and Gyros, Inc. at ExTRAvaganza will bring in a lot of people.

“The gyro man will bring in the kind of crowd TRA wants for the band,” she said.
