LETTER: Vote Twombley, Newcomb for GSB
March 7, 2003
This Monday and Tuesday write in Keith Twombley for GSB president and Matt Newcomb for GSB vice president.
Why should you take the extra time to write in someone’s name?
Because Twombley and Newcomb care about things that you care about and know how to get them fixed.
What will we do that these others won’t?
We already have plans for our promises. We want there to be more interaction between the students and GSB and we’ll start with the GSB Web site. It needs to show what is currently going on at GSB, provide ways for users to give feedback, have a place for suggestions and provide a forum to discuss important topics.
But why stop there? GSB needs to take full advantage of all the student-run mass media on campus, which are funded by GSB. The Iowa State Daily already does an excellent job at covering GSB events, but we want to see a weekly or biweekly newscast air on KURE and ISU TV to expand the reach of GSB.
The other candidates are silent on some big topics that GSB could be most effective in handling.
The expansion of the Fresh Start program and the 75/25 policy has been met with extreme student opposition, and those are the things we want to tackle.
Nobody wants to pay more for tuition — GSB presidents would not be doing their job if they didn’t do what was in their power to fight increased rates.
It is important to remember, though, that good candidates have concrete plans. It is easy to campaign on lower tuition and other pipe dreams. While our heads are in the sky, our feet are firmly on the ground; we feel we’re the perfect candidates.
What experience do these guys have, you ask? Both of us have served on elected student government positions as well as other leadership positions on campus. Twombley is currently the Inter-Residence Hall Association President, and served as the Towers Residence Association President the previous year.
Newcomb served as the Richardson Court Association Director of Finance and has been a resident assistant in Willow Hall and is currently a community adviser in Maple Hall.
Twombley and Newcomb have worked to improve IRHA’s interaction with its constituents via the IRHA Web site.
Twombley established the IRHA voter turnout drive, a joint venture with Speaker of the Senate Tony Luken. We know how Iowa State works and how to get things done at this university.
For empty promises there are the other candidates. For results, write in Keith Twombley for GSB president and Matt Newcomb for GSB vice president.
Remember to vote on March 10-11, it is quick and online.
