Ames jewelry store describes theft suspect
March 28, 2003
Police are still looking for suspects in connection with a theft Wednesday at an Ames jewelry store, Ames Police Cmdr. Jim Robinson said.
A male entered Ames Silversmith, 220 Main St., Wednesday at about 1:50 p.m. and asked a store clerk to show him jewelry. When the clerk turned away, the male took an undisclosed amount of gems and left the store.
Robinson said the suspect ran west on Main Street, south on Kellogg Avenue and west through the central business district parking lot.
The suspect was described to police as a male in his 20s, about 5’10” tall and 170 to 175 pounds. His hair was pulled back in a ponytail and he was wearing a red baseball cap, a red jacket, a red, white and blue plaid shirt and blue jeans.
Ames Police is requesting anyone with information about the crime contact police at 239-5133 or 239-5132.
“We received some tips and are following up on those,” Robinson said, although he said no suspects have been identified at this time.
