LETTER: Armed forces need domestic support
March 12, 2003
Living in a world of peace is a dream that everyone has. Unfortunately, with the threat of war drawing nearer, that dream is disappearing.
I am not anti-war or pro-war, and as much as I would like to see the United States not have to go to war, I don’t think a peaceful resolution will be able to be reached. Saddam has been lying and is continuing to lie, and no one has been able to stop him … yet.
I admit, I had not given much thought to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and how important they are until I met my husband, who is now a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.
My husband, among many others in this country, have the courage to leave family, spouses, children and friends behind in the hopes that they will be able to make a difference and help this country become a safer, better place for all of us to live in.
These men and women are real-life heroes who don’t get as much credit as they deserve. They are the ones risking their lives for us, just as the soldiers in previous wars did. Without people like them, what would this country be today?
They stood up for what they believed in and are the ones who keep this country safe for all of us, day after day. The men and women of the United States Armed Forces are the real heroes, not movie stars, proathletes or any other famous people. I only hope that when I have children, they will look up to their father and others like him, and realize that the reason they live in such a great country is because he and other men and women in the military fought for our freedom and will continue fighting for it in the future.
Please support our military. They are fighting for all of us so that we can live in a safer nation.
