LETTER: Civil rights demand same-sex benefits

In response to Mr. Bangar’s online feedback printed on Feb. 25, “Homosexuality is the wrong choice,” I offer this rebuttal.

Sir, you are entitled to your own beliefs and opinions in a country which supports (or attempts to) equal rights, but to deny any human equal rights is an outrage. That, sir, is what I call immoral.

Denying any homosexual couple same-sex benefits that heterosexuals are offered is far from equal rights for citizens of this fine country.

Maybe this type of “immoral behavior” was accepted by some people in the 1950s and 1960s, when African-Americans had to ride the back of the bus, but frankly, this is wrong — just like denying me the same benefits as a heterosexual.

As far as I’m concerned, your opinion is wrong.

How dare you to tell me or any other reader that homosexuality is a choice. You may believe this and that’s just fine; however, to tell me, a homosexual, that I chose to be gay is completely ridiculous.

Are all men really created equal in your vision of society or is it just the ones that you like?

As far as using your biological basis that we are destined to die as a human race because of homosexuality: I’m sure there are more than enough heterosexual people in the world to keep the human race alive for quite some time.

Plus, who said homosexuals do not have children? Perhaps you should do your homework before you form your opinions. You say, “call me close-minded or hateful.” I will simply call you a human being entitled to your own opinion, just like I am entitled to mine.
