Association president proposes the elimination of her position

A controversial bill calling for the termination of six Inter-Residence Hall Association positions will be proposed at its meeting Thursday.
The bill calls for the abolishment of residence hall association presidents and at-large representatives, at the end this semester.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Maple-Willow-Larch conference room.
Jennie Erwin, Union Drive Association president and author of the bill, said she believes the bill could bring students closer to the government. She said there is not a lot of support for the bill but she is hoping that will change.
IRHA requires representation at the association level and Erwin said she would like to make it not required.
Erwin said she believes her purpose of going to IRHA meetings is pointless because all the information she receives goes directly to hall representatives.
Keith Twombley, IRHA president, said he is one of many people who are “very, very opposed” to this bill.
He said the most important job for association presidents and at-larges is to attend IRHA meetings.
If people who are elected to serve as association presidents do not have the time to represent their constituents, then they should resign, Twombley said.
“[I am] as against this as I possibly can be,” he said.
He said he believes hall representatives are inexperienced and benefit from the leadership given by association presidents, treasurers and at-large representatives.
