LETTER: Student section: Bring back ‘magic’
February 21, 2003
In last Friday’s Daily, there were a few students who were upset about the forming of the student spirit groups. We, on the other hand, believe this group is a great idea and can’t wait to sign up for it next year.
The way we understand this group is different from the students who wrote their concerns in the opinion section of last week’s Daily. If we are correct, the new spirit group will be behind one of the baskets, not both baskets. In our opinion, that is where the students need to be. We need to make it difficult for the opposing team to make free throws, difficult for the opposing team to concentrate, and more difficult for them to play their game all-around.
We can’t speak for the entire student body, but would hope that this group is around for many years to come. We think it would be great to look back and say that we helped start this tradition at Iowa State. So, in order to get this off the ground, we are willing to pay something to be a part of what we think is going to be a great experience.
It was brought up in last week’s article that no students stay around after the games to sing the fight song. We strongly believe that singing the Iowa State fight song after every game is one of the many traditions the student spirit group will bring into Hilton Coliseum.
We have heard people talk about Hilton Magic over and over, but have yet to experience it.
We don’t know where the magic has gone, but we feel the new spirit group can help bring it back.
