Varley suspended after OWI charge

ISU men’s basketball reserve Clint Varley was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated early Sunday morning, ISU Police Capt. Gene Deisinger confirmed Monday.

Deisinger said Varley was arrested and transported to the Story County Justice Center.

A representative at the Story County Jail said Varley was released by a judge at 8:55 a.m. Sunday.

Deisinger said a trial date has not yet been set.

Head coach Larry Eustachy said Varley has been suspended indefinitely from the basketball team.

“I have met with Clint. He is aware that this incident is of a very serious nature,” Eustachy said in a statement.

The 21-year-old from Menlo was picked up at Gray Avenue and Lincoln Way on Sunday.

He was the only reserve to enter Saturday’s game for Iowa State and has appeared in 15 of Iowa State’s 23 games this season.
