IRHA will discuss seating election committee

A bill proposing the seating of an election committee will be introduced at the Inter-Residence Hall Association meeting Thursday.

The bill calls for each association to have an election commissioner, an at-large representative and an alternative member on the election committee.

Justin Rasmussen, Richardson Court Association president and co-author of the bill, said the purpose of the election commission is to oversee IRHA elections.

The members of the commission will set up election rules, distribute and enforce the rules to candidates and investigate misconduct charges, Rasmussen said.

The commission allows elections to “run smoothly and fairly,” he said.

There will also be a presentation by Jennie Erwin, Union Drive Association president. In the presentation, Erwin will be informing IRHA about the direction Union Drive wants to go with its student government structure, she said.

House vice presidents were to have discussed student government re-structuring options with their constituents by Wednesday, Erwin said. She said she and UDA’s at-large representatives were going to call the house vice presidents to find out house feelings.

The purpose of the presentation will be to tell IRHA how UDA’s senate is leaning toward the structure of student government, Erwin said. She said she wants to explain her legislation, so IRHA is not operating under misinformation.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union.
