Comedians Jim Breuer and Bobby Lee will grace Lied Recreation Center during Veishea weekend.

The pair are co-headliners of the Veishea 2003 Dew the Rec event on April 11, the Veishea entertainment committee announced Monday.

Breuer is best known for his characters on “Saturday Night Live” and his role in the movie “Half Baked.” He has made Ames an additional stop on the “Jim Breuer Lighten Up Comedy Tour,” right between Improv West Palm Beach and Improv Orlando. Breuer has appeared on the “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” as well as various movies.

Lee, who will be opening for Breuer, is currently a regular on “Mad TV”, on which he plays characters such as Michelle Kwan and Jackie Chan. Lee got his start as a comedian in 1995 when he caught the eye of Pauly Shore and his manager. He soon joined Shore on a tour of the Midwest. Lee has since appeared on NBC’s “Late Friday,” Comedy Central’s “Make Me Laugh” and Showtime’s “Latino Laugh Festival.”

Breuer and Lee were among several comedians considered for 2003 Dew the Rec event, said Jamie Brock, Veishea entertainment co-chairwoman.

The comedians were chosen because Veishea committees must work within their assigned budget and they “thought this would have a big draw for students because of Breuer’s popularity on ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘Half Baked,'” Brock said.

“I think they are a very good choice and will appeal to all the sections of the student community,” said Merry Cooper, Veishea public relations co-chairwoman.

Last year, Dew the Rec comedians Jay Mohr and opener Joe Lindley drew more than 2,000 students, Brock said.

“I think we’re going to get more students out to see the performance this year,” she said. “We think its going to draw a lot of students and members from the community.”

Veishea 2003 will be held April 11-13.
