LETTER: Code to blame for gyro stand issue

I would like to take a moment to set the record straight. Jimmy John’s is open until 3 a.m. The previous occupants were not open this late. Of course problems arose. So we have asked Mr. Goodman repeatedly to move his gyro stand from the area in front of the Jimmy John’s store but Mr. Goodman refused.

We just wanted him to move his stand away from our store, not eradicate him. We even asked the city for help, but Mr. Goodman still refused to move his stand. It was the city who then decided to revoke his license. Apparently Mr. Goodman was violating both city and state code.

Only the city of Ames can answer the question on why they allowed this violation to continually occur. It is obvious that Mr. Goodman perceives us as competition, but the feeling is not mutual. Our competition lies within the walls of other local sub shops.

It’s great that the Campustown area offers a plethora of eating options to the late-night crowd. We do not want Mr. Goodman to disappear from Campustown, we just want him to move his stand away from our store.
