LETTER: Lobbying may help with tuition

As you lobby your state senator and state representative, let your legislators know the names of your parents and grandparents if they still live in your home district. Make it clear that your family has lived in the district for a long time and will continue to live in the district.

Many legislators have bought into the spin that Iowa graduates of the Regents institutions will all move out of the state and are, therefore, not as worthy of aid as community college graduates who, presumably, stay in the state at higher rates.

Why keep ISU tuition low when graduates won’t vote for you in the future anyway, so the argument goes.

Make it clear that you and your family will continue to track the legislator’s support for lower tuition through the end of the session when dirty deals are often made.
