LETTER: Homosexual acts condemned by God

Recently, there has been a lot of confusion regarding the Bible vs. homosexuality. Unfortunately, a lot of opinions have been expressed even though they are unfounded and untrue. It is simply astounding to hear professed atheists try to lecture people on the subject of the Bible.

First of all, it is true that the Bible has been translated as people see fit in the past, but today’s New International Version is the most accurate translation possible. The only way to obtain a more accurate version is to read the original Hebrew manuscripts.

Scholars, more recently, have slaved over the original manuscripts to bring back the meanings originally written. To say that today’s Bible is “just an interpretation” is just a guess by someone who appears to not have studied the subject at all.

Secondly, the Bible condemns homosexual acts, not homosexual feelings. In addition to the verse in 1 Corinthians, Leviticus 20:13 states, “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.” This statement is near impossible to inaccurately translate.

I am not suggesting that homosexuals be killed, but proving a point that the Bible stands against homosexual acts.

Another problem is the subject of judgment; it was stated several days ago that judgment is left to God and God alone. This is true. But this “judgment” refers to the decision between heaven and hell. The Bible condemns both murder and homosexual acts; I can guarantee that you have seen a murder on the television and thought “that is wrong,” so are you judging, too?

No. We are allowed to decide whether or not we accept the actions of others. We cannot, however, make the decision as to whether or not the person will be saved.

In the future, we must learn to speak only if what we are saying is founded and true, and not just a random guess. I am a Christian and I have no intention of acting against homosexuals for there exists no one without sin (“let he who is without sin throw the first stone”), but I cannot support their actions.
