LETTER: Federal government binding sovereignty

Drunk driving is bad, I think we all agree on that. I do, however, see two major problems with this law.
First, most drunk drivers are well over .10, so the only real difference will be in the penalty suffered by the driver.
Second, this is a clear-cut case of the federal government extorting the states. They’ve presented an ultimatum; either lower the legal limit or lose out on federal funds. When the state is in a serious budget crisis, it’s incredibly hard to say “just say no.”
