LETTER: Donors improve Beardshear Hall
January 15, 2003
Monday’s edition of the Daily provided us with a glimpse of what promises to be a beautiful addition to the renovation of Beardshear Hall. The painting restores colors from decades ago, the replaced gilding (gold leaf) adds a vivid accent and a stained glass crown will provide a new highlight to the dome.
Work is nearing completion, and new, permanent lighting of the interior of the dome will soon show the results of the meticulous work from the past few months.
Although some of the improvements to the public atrium spaces were a part of the original Beardshear Hall renovation, which started nearly three years ago, several aspects have been added. Because of the generosity of several private donors and their love for the building, the gilding was added to the project as well as a significant portion of the new or replicated stained glass. Due to their generosity, many generations will enjoy the restored color and lightness of one of our campus’s treasures.
