LETTER: Dear all, stand up for your beliefs
January 23, 2003
I have decided to draft a letter and send it to people of political importance that I feel are hastening all of us toward acting upon an ill-thought idea on the pending need for war.
It is my hope that because of it, people will think more clearly and rationally about the possible ramifications, for themselves and on our nation, of participating in such a war …
Dear [blank],
I have been recently informed that you have asked thousands of our men to potentially die for certain causes or ideals. Surely, you would not be willing to let others die for something that you yourself would not be willing to die for.
As such, it is with utmost respect that I ask you to resign your current position in order to fight, and die if need be, alongside our men. After all, for such a just and noble cause you must feel a great deal of pride in being able to potentially give your life for it. I hope that you make the right decision and step down to fight, hand-in-hand, with our men. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Ryan Gerdes
