Bill would reorganize conference duties
January 23, 2003
>A bill calling for a new organization to take charge of all conference duties will be the main focus at the next Inter-Residence Hall Association meeting.
The Conferences — Revamped! bill, if passed, would set up the Residence Hall Leadership Organization, which will be in charge of taking delegates to Midwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls, or MACURH, National Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls, or NACURH, and No-Frills, said Heather Minish, director of conferences. MACURH, NACURH and No-Frills are leadership conferences open to residence hall students.
The new organization will benefit residents in the dorms by giving all ISU residents the ability to attend conferences, Minish said. The current conference structure does not include Frederiksen Court residents, but the new structure will make it possible to take more students to conferences and to include Frederiksen Court, she said.
“By subjecting conferences to fewer IRHA restrictions, conferences may be better administered,” said Dave Breutzmann, president of Towers Residence Association.
Fund raising will also become more flexible and money will be spent specifically on students, Minish said. This would make all parties involved operate more smoothly by removing the added responsibility of conferences from IRHA, she said.
Goals for the Residence Hall Leadership Organization will include getting students more involved in activities outside of residence halls, Minish said.
Minish also said they would like to host a student leadership conference here on campus.
The IRHA meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the Wallace-Wilson Conference Room.
