LETTER:Ames contributing to student woes

The city of Ames is now punishing those students who cannot afford to make ends meet without more than two roommates. The over-occupancy city ordinance, brought back into effect Nov. 1, was done by the same city hall that appealed to students to list Ames as their primary residence, so as to receive more federal money by putting the population over 50,000.

Apparently the federal money wasn’t enough.

Now those that already cannot afford to live without more than two roommates get kicked onto the street and are entitled to give the city $500. At a time when tuition is raising 20 percent, the third increase in tuition in as many years, how many more will have to leave college, making the American dream just that — a dream?

If nothing else, it lets me know how much I can count on Ames to betray and squeeze all the money it can out of students, and Iowa State takes the rest. I will make sure to tell all prospective students this, as I wish I was told before I came.
