LETTER:GSB proves itself useless once again
December 5, 2002
I absolutely agree with the Daily’s editorial on Dec. 3, “Sarcastic senators hurt GSB’s image.” The GSB keeps showing their constituents how insignificant they can be when it comes to dealing with actual problems with our school. I know everybody is so glad GSB is around to give the university a recommendation that “there be more strict regulations on the verbal communications of teaching assistants.” If they even get a recommendation off, besides allocating funds to student organizations after no debate, that will be their only great accomplishment this semester.
Oh wait, GSB doesn’t fund the student organizations, rather all Iowa State students do that when we pay the student activity fee on our U-Bills. All that happens is the money gets funneled through GSB.
Then there is that bill that GSB passed allowing meeting-time flexibility. Whew, glad they were around to make that important decision.
I often wonder if GSB themselves think that they are needed. Very few students seem to care about whom is in GSB. I mean, a 5 percent voter turnout at their elections proves that point. Iowa State University is always looking for a way to save money and make cuts where possible. Perhaps abolishing GSB entirely will save the university money. Of course, then what will those GSB senators do with all their spare time?
