Group forms to promote kindness

“Do you like puppies?” “Do you like butterflies?”

Don’t be surprised if these phrases sound familiar. They’re becoming increasingly popular on campus, thanks to ISU’s newest student club, “Warm Fuzzies.”

Juan “Noel” Reyes, freshman in computer engineering, said he started the club November 14. The 13 members aim to perform campus-wide random acts of kindness.

“My organization is simply about being nice to people,” Reyes said. “I just want to cheer people up. I just want to brighten someone’s day.”

Reyes said world and local events may have influenced the club’s original idea but the main theme was to give back to the campus.

David Romero, Warm Fuzzies member and sophomore in biology, said although the group’s beginning may be slow and reception by students may be awkward at first, he remains optimistic.

Laura Thilmany, program assistant for student support services, said Warm Fuzzies will make a difference on campus. “You never know when someone’s having a bad day but any time someone reaches out in a positive way it can’t not help,” she said.
