LETTER:University disgraced by band’s actions
December 6, 2002
This is in response to Shawn Gealow’s letter, “Pep band out to have fun, not annoy,” that was published in the Dec. 5 edition of the Iowa State Daily.
I question what fun is it for us , as fans, to sit in the stands and hide our faces in disgust and embarrassment as the members of the pep band once again prove themselves as social morons on a national stage?
The pep band has become like the child-molesting uncle of the ISU family — nobody wants to claim them.
Maybe going out for pep band is catharsis for years of being picked on by your classmates and society at large. Or maybe it is a way to leave a legacy at Iowa State as the person that made up the “you’re shooting a turkey” chant.
Whatever the reason may be, know this: I would rather have no pep band at all than have one that disgraces themselves and their university.
