LETTER:In war there are no apologies
November 11, 2002
Mr. Tesdell, how dare you defend these evil men in your column, “Killing the innocent with no apologies” (Nov. 8), who have committed acts of war against our nation? The fact is that we are at war — hence the phrase “War on Terror” — and when two groups are at war there are no trials or juries or sympathies for those who are killed.
I am an American soldier, and proud to say it. I know if I fight and die for my beliefs and my country the enemy will send no condolences to my family. Neither will sympathy be expected from those responsible for my death. How, then, can you demand an apology from our government for the death of these men who we aided in dying for their beliefs?
So what if they didn’t get a trial? Neither will I if I go to Iraq and get killed. I find it sickening that you would stand up for the evil men who declared war upon our nation and are now reaping the consequences of their actions. Did Hitler deserve a trial for the evil that he did. Absolutely not.
Unfortunately, he took his own life before we could enforce justice upon him ourselves. In the same manner these men who died certainly did not deserve a trial, or sympathy from the likes of you, either. The fact is they should have thought twice about inflicting mass death upon the American citizenry.
Only a fool would do such things and not expect retaliation. Omar, I must say once again that your defense of the actions of these evil men disgusts me. I consider your column to be treasonous and I wish you would take your anti-American sentiments elsewhere. Be thankful that you can’t be thrown in a prison for speaking against the government (like they do in Iraq), not criticize the provider of your freedoms.
Lastly, your ungratefulness of the freedoms you receive are an insult to all members of the military who have fought, bled and died for your sake. I hope that you are ashamed for the treasonous views you have expressed.
