LETTER:Marching band deserves bowl too

I am writing in regard to the injustice being done towards the 300-member Iowa State marching band. Recently, the marching band was informed that, should the Cyclone football team go to a lesser bowl game, other than the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, the Athletic Department would not be sending the marching band, due to funding.

With the increase of season football ticket sales, monies received from televising the Cyclone football games, funds generated from two, possibly three, bowl games, etc., I’m appalled by this news.

These band members dedicate themselves to the ISU marching band program. The hours they commit to rehearsals, practices and performances for the full semester for the football games are long and numerous. Through their hard work, spirit and duty, the band students have given their all to make the Iowa State University Cyclone Football Varsity Marching Band something to be proud of.

To consider the marching band not worthy to send to any bowl game is unjust. They are an integral part of Iowa State and deserve this opportunity, along with the football team, cheerleaders, pom squad and the loyal fans of Iowa State.
