LETTER:Edge provided by priority registration
November 19, 2002
I am writing in response to Jewell’s Pospeshil’s letter (“Caucasians suffer scheduling bias,” Nov. 14).
First, I would like to thank Jewell for bringing this subject out. I was not aware that there are people that get to register before others based on the color of their skin, not on the number of credits that they have.
Minority scholarships are a fantastic tool for creating equal opportunity. Giving scholarships with registration priorities does not. It gives the recipient an advantage, not equality.
Maybe with everyone knowing about this advantage, the school will fix the problem and leave registration priority to honors students and the number of credits that you have.
