IRHA may aid dance competition
November 7, 2002
The Inter-Residence Hall Association will discuss the possibility of allocating $1,500 to the ISU Ballroom Dance Company’s dance competition at Thursday’s meeting.
“This is the first ballroom dance competition in Iowa,” said Samantha Olson, sophomore in computer engineering and member of the Ballroom Dance Company.
“We’ve invited schools from all over the Midwest.”
The Nov. 9 competition is open to people of all age groups.
Tickets are on pre-sale at $3 for students and $8 for adults. She said anyone can register to compete until Friday.
Eric Peters, Willow Hall representative, said the event would bring culture to campus.
“It’s different than what’s usually going on,” he said. “There’s concerts, but there’s not too many ballroom dance things going on.”
Also at the meeting, Government of the Student Body Vice President Joe Darr will discuss the GSB Comedy Festival. The event, at 8 p.m. Nov. 13 at Stephens Auditorium, will feature comedians Tony Rock and David Cross.
“I’m going to let [IRHA] know how much tickets are,” he said. “I pretty much just wanted to let them know about that and spread the word.”
He said he would distribute some tickets and fliers for the members to take back to the residence halls.
A bill allocating $200 to the Freshman Council for an alcohol-free tailgate party will also be introduced.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Union Drive Association Suite 1 Conference Room.
