The crowd at the memorial service contained many non-Minnesotans, including the Clintons, Ted Kennedy, Tom Harkin, etc., who could not have been expected to be stoic Norsemen.

The event was set up as a political rally from its inception.

Tomorrow I will vote against Tom Harkin who knew exactly what he was doing in cynical political terms when he engaged in emotional rabble-rousing during his speech.
