Professor receives award for career

On Nov. 12, Walter Fehr, the Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture and director of the Office of Biotechnology at Iowa State, will receive the Monsanto Crop Science Distinguished Career Award.

While at Iowa State, Fehr has mentored more than 120 undergraduate and 70 graduate researchers. The award recognizes commitment in both teaching and research.

Fehr has bred more than 150 soybean varieties, some of which are used in the production of tofu, soy milk and traditional Japanese products.

Biodiesel series comes back

Iowa State and the Iowa Energy Center will offer the first of a three-part workshop series again because of positive response, and registration is now open.

The first workshop, “Business Management for Biodiesel producers” will be held Dec. 9 and 10.

The second, “Biodiesel Analytical Methods” will follow on Dec. 11 to 13. The series concludes in February with “Biodiesel Production Technology.”
