More accolades for football star

Two days after recording a school-record 498 total yards in a 42-35 win over Missouri, ISU quarterback Seneca Wallace was named the National Player of the Week by The Sporting News and the co-Offensive Player of the Week by the Big 12 Conference on Monday.

The senior from Sacramento, Calif., led the Cyclones on a 13-play, 93-yard drive to set up a Michael Wagner touchdown with 32 seconds left. Wallace was 4-for-4 on the drive and had two big runs of 33 and 13 yards to set up the winning touchdown.

He also hit on a school-record 31-of-47 pass attempts for 425 yards, and his 425 passing yards rank second in school history behind Todd Bandhauer, who threw for 437 yards against Texas in 1998.

“It feels good to know that I set those records,” Wallace said after the game. “Years from now, I can look back and say that was the day I set those records against Missouri. It’s truly an honor.”

ISU wide receiver Lane Danielsen said Wallace deserves the honors.

“Seneca was unbelievable,” Danielsen said. “In my opinion, he is the best player in college football right now. I am just glad he is on my team.”

Wallace also became Iowa State’s all-time leader in total offense for a season with 2,702 and career with 5,221 on Saturday.
