LETTER:War is not like Western movies
November 12, 2002
In response to Mr. Bracewell’s letter where he criticizes Mr. Tesdell’s recent column (“In war there are no apologies,” Nov. 11): Well, Mr. G.I. Joe, you are so excited about your “wars” as if you have just seen a John Wayne movie, something out of the old Wild West. Maybe in your perfect world, but not mine, and not the perfect world of my people.
I am a Palestinian, Mr. Bracewell, and I tell you this: How dare you label our people as terrorists when it is you and your weapons that have my people getting killed on a daily basis.
I know for sure that I value and feel sorry for the people who died in the World Trade Center more than you do. You’re just in it for the glory. You don’t know what it’s like to die, because it seems to me that you’re so excited for war.
War will kill you and I before we have a chance to talk it out. You need to lay off and find peaceful ways with us and the rest of the world, or there will be a war.
And for Allah’s sake, don’t glorify it, because you just don’t know how freaky and horrible it is. It’s lethal. It is better to talk and live than to label and curse each other and then die.
Neither I, nor my family, nor my tribe hates or hated your country.
Yet it is your weapons that the Israelis use to blow our brains out under your government’s political umbrella. You need to re-examine your media, extract its hidden agendas and then post your responses to such wonderful postings as those of Mr. Tesdell, who obviously prefers order over disorder.
There is absolutely no excuse for unjust killing of innocents. The Sept. 11 killers are killers. But so are the Marines that go and kill and bomb thousands and thousands of people all over the world.
Go watch and enjoy your movies, Mr. Bracewell; maybe in those movies you don’t feel pain, but in war, there is pain. Before going to fight, Mr. Bracewell, stop supporting those who terrorize us, those who occupy Palestine and have been occupying it since 1948.
Stop supporting the authoritarian regimes around the world.
Until then, honestly, you absolutely have no case whatsoever, and until you stop Mr. Bush from supporting those who terrorize my people, I will never even listen to the likes of you.
But know this: I, the Palestinian that is under Israeli occupation, am praying for you, that in your life, you see true happiness and truly realize what it is your country has done to my people and to innocents around the world.
