LETTER:Liberals before journalists

I’ve always known that the Daily staff swung to the left side of the political spectrum, but I never imagined that they would allow their political views to distort the facts. I am deeply disappointed in the Daily’s reporting of the results of Tuesday’s election. Three men won the three major races: Governor Vilsack, Senator Harkin and Representative Latham.

The Daily clearly covered and reported the victories of the Harkin and Vilsack campaigns, but when it came to the election for U.S. Representative, they decided to report on the loser of the race, John Norris.

Why is this?

I’ll tell you — it’s because the Daily forgot they are supposed to be journalists first and Democrats second. This is evident when in the article about the race for U.S. Representative, Tom Latham was quoted once, while John Norris’ brother, father and campaign manager were all quoted.

Why aren’t there quotes from Greg Ganske or his relatives in the article on the senatorial race? Why aren’t there any quotes from Doug Gross’ family in the article about the gubernatorial race?

Even the headlines show the Daily staff’s bias when each begins with the name of the Democratic candidate for each election, even though Norris was beaten rather decisively.
