LETTER:Service upheld Wellstone’s life
November 5, 2002
I’m sorry, but you are flat out wrong about this. Yes, the booing was unnecessary and wrong, but the rest of the memorial service was a just remembrance of Paul Wellstone’s great life.
You say, “It was a great injustice to the memory of such a leader to have his memorial service turned into a forum for political activism.”
Paul Wellstone’s life was devoted to political activism. How could you celebrate the life of this man without talking about political activism? There is no better way to remember him than to continue his legacy of activism.
This memorial service was put on by Paul’s sons as a remembrance and celebration of a great man’s life. He affected many people deeply, not just Minnesotans, and this was their chance to say thank you. It wasn’t for political gain, and it certainly did not dishonor the memory of this great senator.
