LETTER:Big-12-centric Daily a disappointment
November 6, 2002
I am very disappointed in the way the Daily covers college football. Have you forgotten that there is a conference on the West Coast? How about the SEC (the toughest top to bottom conference in the nation)?
I don’t mind the lack of acknowledgement of the ACC and Big East, but the Big Ten? That race is worth writing about, the fact that Michigan is not by any means out of it, which is sadly neglected.
One of the key things that the Daily lacks is looking to the future. As for the Heisman, I won’t nearly be as critical of the Daily, simply because ESPN doesn’t even have a clue either.
The fact is, Seneca is out of it. Even if he were to win out, it would take terrible performances (and possibly more importantly, losses) by Ken Dorsey for him to even come close. Perhaps Ken Dorsey does deserve the Heisman; I don’t think so, but I can see the reasoning. The quarterback is breaking Big East records and on his way to a second national championship. What gets me is, when I checked out the ESPN Heisman candidates, I did not see Washington State’s Jason Gesser on the list. Disgraceful.
I know many people are not aware of this quarterback (or as I mentioned earlier, the Pac-10), but his numbers are a benchmark of quarterback excellence. He has Washington State on its way to the Rose Bowl. Somebody give the man some respect.
In closing, this year is the most interesting year in college football I can remember. Ask Coach McCarney, he will tell you, the teams are so closely matched it can be maddening. I could go on for ever, but I should stop myself. I could go on forever, but I should stop myself.
Get excited and write about the many intriguing aspects of this season; you probably won’t see anything like it again.
