LETTER:Where was Daily’s Tae kwon do story?

On Oct. 30, thirty-four ISU students left, as part of the ISU National Tae kwon do Team, for Aguadilla, Puerto Rico for the 27th National Tae kwon do Association Championships. The ISU team placed first. This was a tremendous accomplishment for all these students.

Tae kwon do is not a varsity sport, so the team members have no athletic scholarships to help defray tuition or training costs. Nothing was printed in the Daily upon their return, when at least one newsletter was submitted.

On Saturday, the Ames Tribune did a front-page article (with color photo) of two of the members of the team. I felt that the Daily would surely on Monday, have a small, but belated, news item about the team. There was not even a single paragraph in the Daily about the team.

Since seven of these team members are undergraduates in computer science, as one of their academic advisers, I want to congratulate John Mertens, Patrick Weaver, Andrew Wittrock, Jacob Linz, Craig Rueter, Allen Sanborn and Nicholas Shafer on the herculean efforts they have made combining academic pursuits with tae kwon do practice.

Good job, Tae kwon do team.
