Foundation considers two candidates

The Iowa State University Foundation is continuing its search for a new president. Two candidates recently visited campus, but no decision has been made, according to ISU Foundation officials.

Wayne King, senior vice president for development at Oklahoma State University, was the first candidate to visit with the Foundation’s search committee.

Another candidate, Thomas S. Hiles, vice president for institutional advancement at Western Kentucky University and executive director of the WKU Foundation, interviewed and visited campus soon after.

“The outcome is still pending,” said Phyllis Lepke, Foundation vice president of communications.

Lepke said a third candidate was invited to campus, but declined to visit.

Although the process is taking longer than expected, Foundation officials want to make sure they find the appropriate person for the job.

“We want to get the search concluded as quickly as possible and find the best candidate,” Lepke said.

Tom Mitchell, former Foundation president, resigned in June to accept a similar position at the University of California at Irvine.

Current Interim President Peg Armstrong-Gustafson has said she has no interest in taking on the role of Foundation President.
