LETTER:Praise the Lord and pass the loot!
October 3, 2002
Want to make a quick buck? Start a fad. I’m sure you would all agree that all this hype, all this propaganda over the last week has been leading up to one big thing. But here’s where you’re wrong; it hasn’t been leading up to the talks Dave is going to give, it was only leading up to the sale of T-shirts.
Dave has brilliantly swept through this campus and given birth to so much hype, that even those who don’t care can’t help but be interested.
He spread ambiguous flyers and balloons to get people’s attention and build suspense; not even revealing his “true” purpose until just two days before his talk by taking out a half-page ad in the Daily. Now reading this ad I noticed something. Everything he stated is the same as what I hear from every other Christian when I talk to them about why they believe.
So why do all the “Dave-heads” feel that they have to pay him for something they already hold to be true? Because it’s a fad! Think about it. In the end when this is all said and done, how many of you that paid for your T-shirt will still wear it on a regular basis? How many people will this campaign of Dave’s have converted?
What new and profound insights can Dave offer you when you already know what he stands for and believe in it whole-heartedly yourself?
The answer to all of these questions is not a whole lot. So where does that leave you? When it’s all over you have less money and Dave has it. Now think about the large amount of other people you saw all week wearing T-shirts, just like you, and ask yourself: “What is it I really agree with?”
