LETTER:Green shirts not about Dave
October 3, 2002
I have faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. So does Dave. And that’s why I’m wearing this shirt. That’s the only reason. It’s not a gimmick to try to trick people or force them to believe something they don’t want to believe. I’m not in a cult either. Dave, nor anyone else, forced me to wear this lime-green shirt. I chose to wear it because my faith is my life, it is who I am, and so I want to share that with the people around me.
If you would be willing to stay and talk, even if you don’t agree, then we would love to discuss it with you. You can be honest; tell us what you think and your reasons for thinking so, as long as you will treat us with the same respect that we will treat you. The “I Agree With Dave” campaign is about stirring up curiosity and helping people understand what Christianity is really about. This can only happen through open and honest discussions about our beliefs, without fighting or hatred. And that is what we are trying to do. It’s not about Dave. Dave is just a spokesperson, an ordinary guy who happens to be the one chosen to represent the Christian faith during this event. I don’t know Dave personally, and honestly, it doesn’t matter. I’m involved in this because of the message he’s sharing, the message of Christ that I’ve placed my hope in.
The invitation to talk is still open. So, do you agree with Dave?
