The ISU volleyball team’s losing streak continued at Hilton Coliseum Saturday night when they were defeated by Baylor 3-1 in Big 12 Conference action.

The Cyclones have dropped their last six matches since starting out the season 9-2.

The loss brings their conference record to 0-6.

Baylor improved to 7-8 and 1-4 in league play.

The Cyclones started out strong in the first game, and led 29-22 when Baylor launched a comeback.

Behind the serving of Jillian Mazzarella, the Bears scored eight unanswered points to pull into the 29-30 lead.

A kill by Ashlie McWee evened the score at 30.

After another Baylor point, two consecutive kills by Amanda Craig gave Iowa State the 32-31 edge, but those would be the last points the Cyclones would score.

Baylor went on to win the game 34-32.

ISU head coach Linda Crum said her team should have won the first game.

“That was a critical point in the match,” Crum said.

“We just absolutely fell apart mentally. We didn’t execute anything and that was really the key to the whole match. It is very disappointing in terms of how we executed in that stretch of about six points.”

The second game saw a back and forth battle with Baylor winning 30-26.

Game three looked like it would be a repeat of game one.

With Iowa State leading 29-23, Tisha Schwartz of Baylor served four straight points bringing the score to 29-27.

Crum called a timeout and Craig came back out, got a kill and the Cyclones won the game 30-27 to extend the match.

“In game three, I felt like the team really put some heart and passion into what they were doing,” Crum said. “They executed more like they’re used to executing.”

For the Cyclones, it didn’t carry over.

It was all Baylor in the fourth game, which the Bears won 30-22.

It was a career night for Craig, who recorded 16 kills and 25 digs.

This season the former setter has had to learn to adjust to the hitter position.

“It has been fairly easy. The coaches have helped me a lot,” Craig said.

“The team has helped me a lot to adjust. They tell me where all my swings are at and tips are at, so they make it a lot easier for me. I’m starting to feel a lot more comfortable.”

Ashlie McWee also set a new career high with 12 kills. Mandi Harms and Renae Pruess were the other Cyclones who scored double-digit kills with 15 and 13.

Sara Stribe contributed 52 assists and 19 digs.

Dana Koziol had 21 digs and Brittany Dalager recorded 12.

The Cyclones travel to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the Jayhawks on Wednesday.

They will return home to play No. 5 Nebraska on Saturday. That match will begin at 1 p.m.
