LETTER:Five reasons for going to war in Iraq

In response to Ramsey Tesdell’s letter “War in Iraq bad?” Here are the reasons we should go to war with Iraq.

1. The Iraqi does pose a threat to our national security. Saddam does have weapons capabilities, whether or not he has the ability to use them is the problem.

2. A pre-emptive strike on Iraq should be the choice at hand unless we would like another September 11th to occur. Why give Saddam the inch so he can take the mile because he has done it before in the early 1990s. Do you remember the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait?

3. By removing Saddam from office we would be lifting a humanitarian disaster from the world. If you haven’t quite figured it out, Saddam is evil and is capable of doing anything.

4. Again, in the early 1990’s did international pressure from the United Nations and the United States deter Saddam from invading Kuwait?

5. Any one would be better than Saddam in office (except bin Laden), the man clearly doesn’t even care about his own people. A new person in office would most likely do a better job of taking care of his people instead of blaming all of their problems on the United States and claiming we are coming in to steal their oil.

The bottom line is, there are too many reasons why we should go into Iraq. As for thousands of people being killed, check the specs on warfare from the United States Army. Operation Desert Storm only lasted 100 hours and we were only fighting Iraqi military personal. The United States armed forces don’t intentionally harm civilians unless the pose a threat (i.e. Somalia). There are no innocent people in war, only the unfortunate.
