GSB may change some meeting times
October 15, 2002
The Government of the Student Body may not always meet Wednesday nights anymore.
T.J. Schneider, GSB president, said a bill giving senate some “flexibility” will be introduced at Wednesday’s meeting.
“Currently, in the bylaws, senate is required to meet every Wednesday night,” said Dan Kline, vice chair of the finance committee and off-campus senator. “We realized it’s possible for future complications to arise.”
Kline said the reason for this bill is the GSB comedy festival is scheduled for a Wednesday night.
Schneider said he thinks the bill is a good idea, because Board of Regents meetings start on Wednesdays. He said changing meeting times will allow more people to attend board meetings.
Schneider said “This is a ‘just-in-case’ scenario.”
Also, the Ames Transit Agency has asked for $25,000 to the CyRide Operating Fund from the GSB Transit Trust Fund.
“There’s potential for a lot of questions on the CyRide bill,” Kline said. “That kind of money throws up a lot of red flags right away. Once everyone understands the situation, I don’t anticipate any problems for this.”
The money would be used to purchase new route-destination signs displayed on buses.
Kline said there is about $200,000 in the trust fund specifically for the Transit Agency.
