LETTER:Scientific evidence debunks evolution
October 17, 2002
Since Mr. Strong and Mr. Christopher believe that all Creationists are a bunch of ignorant idiots relying on an antique book, let me take this opportunity to show the many laws of science which directly contradict evolution. These are all basic scientific facts that can be found in any science textbook, including the ones of Mr. Strong and Mr. Christopher.
The First Law of Thermodynamics (note: law is accepted as fact because plenty of evidence supports it, which should satisfy Mr. Christopher’s little requirement of evidence) states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. This creates a problem with the Big Bang theory.
The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that everything tends towards disorder. This is basic: when given a chance, order becomes chaos. So how is it possible that this simple basic law was flouted for millions of years while humans evolved from single-celled organisms?
Let’s also consider the law of biogenesis, which states that life cannot arise from non-life. Clearly there is a paradox here. Life cannot be formed in the first place without life. I could go on and on, but I don’t have space to give Mr. Strong more correct facts.
I agree that natural selection takes place; however, the theory of common descent is fundamentally flawed. Where are the basic scientific laws that support evolution? Mr. Strong’s assertion of the common cold being an example of evolution is devoid of logic. The common cold is a virus and all scientists accept that viruses are not living organisms because they can’t reproduce by themselves. Using Mr. Strong’s brilliant logic, anything can be considered an example of evolution — never mind that little requirement of evolution needing a living creature to work.
Sadly, science purports to be the pursuit of knowledge. How can science then justify the clear and blatant ignorance of creationism as a valid scientific theory — or even fact? Whether Mr. Christopher likes it or not, atheism is a religion. Religion is defined as “a cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.” Clearly, Mr. Strong and Mr. Christopher believe in their religion, and I applaud them for taking a stand by their religion. However, this letter is merely to discredit the old and tired statements by the evolution theorists. Creationism should be taught side by side with evolutionism and intelligent design theories. The role of science should be to provide information, not censor it because it doesn’t fit the requirements of one religion. Thank you.
