LETTER:Foundation of fear can’t rule science
October 16, 2002
The recent flurry of letters debating evolution vs. creationism is a sad example of how fear has become the foundation of modern science. I said fear because the evolutionists are basically afraid that maybe, even in the most remote possibility, there could be a God after all. Likewise, the creationists are afraid that the Bible may be not at all factual in the story of creation.
The quest for the explanation of life should not be taken with fear, but with an open mind. The fundamental principles of science call for the willingness to reject false hypotheses, no matter how much we believe them. Hey, it’s OK to be wrong sometimes. Evolution could be wrong, creation could be wrong, but the same earth is here to stay. Science is ever-evolving — what is a fact now may be no more tomorrow. Don’t let fear deceive you.
