Flanagen leaves football team
ISU head football coach Dan McCarney announced the dismissal of Ryan Flanagen, a reserve wide receiver on the ISU football team, on Monday.
The circumstances behind Flanagen’s dismissal remain unclear although McCarney did say it was for a team rules violation.
The 6-foot-2, 209-pound redshirt freshman from Houston saw brief action in games this season against Tennessee Tech and Iowa.

Morgan taking break from team
The ISU men’s basketball roster got smaller Monday when sophomore Ricky Morgan, pictured above, announced in a statement released by the ISU athletic department that he had decided to take a break from day-to-day basketball practice and games.
“I want to take some time to concentrate on my studies and work out my personal commitment to basketball,” Morgan said in the statement.
“I respect my coaches and love my teammates. They are all 100 percent behind me. I need to take some time to see what I need to do to make a 100 percent commitment to the basketball program.”
Morgan averaged 3.2 points and 3.6 assists per game in Big 12 play last season and started 11 games during the season.
“I have a great deal of respect for Ricky,” head coach Larry Eustachy said in the statement. “He has worked very hard and has been extremely loyal to the people in our program. His time frame is my time frame.”
Morgan will stay at Iowa State and continue work toward his bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and sciences, open option.
