LETTER:Fossils not proof of evolution
October 20, 2002
The fossil record has long been and still remains a stumbling block for evolutionists. If evolution was true, and in fact life has been evolving since its origin, we would expect to see solid evidence in the fossil record.
This evidence is absent. One hundred twenty-five years of paleontological study following Darwin’s theory has not yet yielded a single clear transitional form with transitional structures in the process of evolving. Most species appear abruptly in the fossil record, exist for a period of time, and then disappear abruptly. Should we not see a persistent history of major morphological changes in the fossil record if evolution were true? Even species that exist in the fossil record which are still alive today differ very little from their modern descendants.
The mechanism of evolution cannot be proven by the fossil record even if it did exist with all transitional species (which it doesn’t). To prove evolution, you must be able shows its evidence as well as its mechanism. Without this mechanism, you can do nothing to disprove what is claimed to be an intermediate species or “missing link” existed as its own species and did not descend from or ascend to another. Humans do not possess the life span to observe the mechanism of macroevolution as presented by evolutionists. I will argue the fossil record does prove a simple fact. It proves the fossilized species at one time existed.
