Co-chairs stress campus unity
October 10, 2002
Everyone has seen them around campus this past week — the decorated store fronts, the events schedules posted on every wall and the displays set up outside greek houses.
Homecoming is here again.
Although it is easy to enjoy all the festivities without a second thought, none of this would be happening without the hard work and dedication of this year’s Homecoming general co-chairs Kelly Kennedy and Bret Pierce.
Kennedy and Pierce were elected to their positions at the end of October last year, and have since been planning the current Homecoming events.
“I was special events co-chair last year and I loved it, so I applied for the chair position and got the job,” said Kennedy, senior in elementary education.
“I had such a good time with it, I just wanted to stay involved.”
Along with the fun comes the responsibility, which Kennedy and Pierce have a lot of.
“We oversee the central committee, we have initiated some new things and we make sure that everything is going as planned,” Kennedy said.
Most of the events this year will be familiar, as they have been around for many past Homecomings, Kennedy said, including tournaments, Yell Like Hell, Olympics and special campus meals.
Although this year holds no major changes, Kennedy and Pierce have both been focused on one major goal.
“We have really been stressing to make this a campuswide celebration rather then just a one- group thing,” Kennedy said.
“We really just want everyone to get involved and have a great time this year.”
