MTV to spotlight Seneca’s ‘True Life’
October 10, 2002
ISU quarterback Seneca Wallace has already done ESPN’s Gameday.
Now he’s about to do MTV.
Wallace will appear on MTV on Dec. 22 as part of a series the television network is running called “True Life — I’m a Heisman Trophy Candidate.”
Other players expected to be featured as Heisman candidates include Michigan State receiver Charles Rogers, Marshall quarterback Byron Leftwich, Oregon running back Onterrio Smith and Tennessee quarterback Casey Clausen.
MTV associate producer Jeff Schneider was in Ames Tuesday, following Wallace around with a camera to shoot scenes for the segment.
“I thought it was a great, great idea,” Wallace said. “But I’ve just got to stay focused right now. Good things are happening for us and I just want to maintain that.”
No. 11 Iowa State will play Texas Tech on Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium. A win against the high-powered Red Raiders would help Wallace stay near the top of the Heisman watch lists.
ESPN’s Gameday featured Wallace on their weekly Saturday morning broadcast two weeks ago, before the Cyclones 36-14 win over the Nebraska Huskers. But the usually shy Wallace said being featured on MTV is a little different.
“I think a majority of people watch MTV,” he said. “Females won’t watch College Gameday that much, but a lot of people watch MTV.”
Wallace doesn’t know if being featured on the show with help his Heisman chances, but he does know it won’t hurt.
“The guy off TRL (Total Request Live) might be a Heisman voter, so who knows,” he said.
