LETTER:Homosexuality not the same as rape
October 20, 2002
“Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.” I’ll give you one guess who said this, Mr. Schmidgall. Hitler. So, maybe we shouldn’t completely trust the truth of God’s word. After all, let’s not forget God’s personal genocide of Sodom and Gomorrah.
What Ms. Clark said does extend deeper than homosexuality, but not quite to the extent Mr. Schmidgall wants us to believe. Homosexuality can fit into a group of morally questionable deeds which includes premarital sex, the use of contraceptives, and other sins that are not illegal in our country. There really is no reason to outlaw any of these practices, except on religious grounds. Sex is something private. If two people of any combination of race and gender want to have sex, let them. After all, it’s not going to hurt me nor infringe on my freedoms.
Mr. Schmidgall tastefully brought up the example of infant raping, saying that someone who believes homosexuality is OK must also think that infant raping is OK. Well, there really is no correlation between the two, since raping anyone infringes on their rights. That is the precise difference. As long as you aren’t abusing someone else’s rights, you are free to do whatever you want. Judge not, Mr. Schmidgall. Judge not.
