Women golfers swing solid round
The Cyclone women’s golf team opened the fall portion of the ’02-’03 season with a solid eighth place finish at the Unlimited Potential Invitational.
Iowa State fired a final-round 314 to finish the tournament with a 937 team score.
The Cyclones were led by senior Laura Wells, who finished in a tie for fifth place.
Wells carded a final round 77 to finish at 225. The top-five finish is the sixth of Wells’ career.
Sophomore Louise Kenney finished strongly as well, shooting a 75 in today’s round and finishing at 228, good for 15th place.
UNC-Wilmington ran away with the team title by firing a three-day total of 897, twelve strokes better than second place East Carolina.
UNC-Greensboro, James Madison and Arkansas-Little Rock rounded out the top five in team competition. Adrienne Millican of East Carolina claimed medalist honors, firing a three-day 218.
UNC-Wilimington’s Michelle Jarman finished in the runner-up slot at 220.
The Cyclone women’s golf team will travel to Lincoln, Neb. to compete in the Chip-N-Club Invitational on Sept. 16-17.
Cyclone volleyball digs fourth win
The ISU volleyball team defeated Georgia Southern, 3-1, in their final game at the Georgia Bulldog Classic last weekend at the Ramsey Center in Athens, Ga.
The win improves Iowa State’s record to 4-2 on the young season.
Sophomore Brittany Dalager led the way for the Cyclones with 16 kills and 18 digs, freshman Amanda Craig had 10 kills and 12 digs and junior Renae Pruess added 17 kills and seven digs.
The Cyclones will travel to Des Moines to take on Drake on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
