LETTER:Women’s rugby a spirited force
September 2, 2002
I would like to congratulate the ISU football team on a fantastic showing against FSU. But, before going to the football game there are usually other activities going on.
I’m talking about the ISU Women’s Rugby Club. Last year was the best season that the girls have had since the start of the club. They finished first in the All Iowa tournament and played other teams that were nationally ranked in rugby and won!
Out of 20 girls that played last season, 11 were named to the All Iowa team, and 3 were asked to play at the Midwest level. Then 2 were asked to play at the national level in California. Elizabeth Snodgrass and Kristen Myers are now known and in the pool to play other countries in the world. I’m sure there are other girls on campus who have the same potential and athletic ability that these two and other girls on the team have.
I’m going to predict that these girls will go on to win the national rugby tournament this year.
What I’m asking ISU students is on your way to the game on Saturdays go by the fields East of Tower and watch the Women’s Rugby Club. If any of you girls are interested, stop by and talk to some of the players and join the team! You’ll even be surprised by how in shape they are! If you think that big relates to rugby, it must be their heart your talking about.
