ISU soccer loses, tiesat UMass

The ISU soccer team recorded a loss and a draw this weekend in the UMass Classic.

Massachusetts blanked the ISU soccer team 1-0 at the classic Friday.

With the victory, the Minutewomen improved to 1-5.

Massachusetts scored the game’s only goal at the 12-minute mark. Lindsey Bellini scored her first goal of the season, with Michelle Luttati and Erin Lilly assisting on the play.

Iowa State outshot Massachusetts 25-12, which included a 17-8 margin in the second half.

Amy Flores came off the bench and recorded seven shots for Iowa State, and Kristina Baumann tallied six shots.

Nikki Gamble fired four attempts and Deb Benakis added three.

Goalkeeper Kelly Nigh came up big for the Minutewomen, recording ten saves on the day.

Iowa State’s Beth Chapman posted five saves and has now allowed one goal or less in five of the Cyclones six games in 2002.

The Cyclones earned a 1-1 draw with Fairfield on Sunday.

Gamble scored the lone goal for Iowa State in the 49th minute, tying it at 1.

With the draw the Cyclones moved to 3-3-1 on the season, but have not won a match since starting the season 3-0.

Iowa State is back in action on Friday when they’ll travel to Texas A&M to face the Aggies.
