GSB will seat new justices at meeting

The Government of the Student Body will be meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Reiman Gardens to vote on four seating bills and “Meet Your Government Day.”

Susan Kenien, junior in elementary education, has been nominated for education senator, and the rest of the finance committee is to be seated.

Jonathan Marvin, senior in microbiology, and Amanda Lee, junior in sociology, are expected to be voted in as associate justices of the GSB Supreme Court.

If approved, these appointments will restore the court because there have to be six justices for it to meet.

There are still two open seats on the court.

Chief Justice Greg Tew resigned and T.J. Schneider, GSB president, said he is looking for a replacement.

Joe Darr, GSB vice president, said in the meantime, someone will be appointed a temporary chief justice.

GSB will also be voting on the budget for “Meet Your Government Day.” The plans include a barbecue and meeting with the students.

Darr said the senators will be on Central Campus, cooking with the students and shaking their hands. He said this is an attempt to let the students know who represents them.

Other business up for discussion includes ensuring executive leadership for everyone and a bill that would write the position of director of student diversity into the GSB bylaws.

Darr said plans for the Fall Event Series are going well and he expects to have them finalized within the next two weeks.

Before the meeting, the senators will be given a tour of Reiman Gardens.
